Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Association
MAIN STREET

The commercial areas of Greater Belhaven were designated as an Urban Neighborhood Main Street community in 2003 by the Mississippi Main Street Association.  Known as the Greater Belhaven Urban Neighborhood Main Street, it includes Fortification Street and the surrounding commercial areas.   "Main Street" approach to economic development was developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the 1970s, as a way to revitalize commerical districts.  Its methods combine "historic preservation with economic development to restore prosperity and vitality to downtowns and neighborhood business districts."

The Main Street approach is accomplished through four committees that are chaired by members of the Greater Belhaven Board of Directors.

They are:

Economic Restructuring, Tasho Katsaboulas

Promotions, Susan Garrard

Design, Rob Farr

Operations, Rod Clement

The Economic Restructuring Committee is in the process of creating a Greater Belhaven Merchants Association. If you are interested in being a member, email info@greaterbelhaven.com.
