Reporting Security Concerns

🚨 Emergency

Always call 911 in the case of an emergency.

For non-emergency situations, please contact the appropriate agency directly:

Keeping our neighborhood safe is a shared effort. Our neighborhood works best when neighbors look out for one another. GBF has created an easier way for residents to report:

  • Abandoned or oversized vehicles
  • Security concerns
  • Vacant or poorly maintained properties
  • Rental properties not being properly managed

Physical Patrol Information

The Greater Belhaven Foundation works closely with law enforcement and security organizations to enhance safety. All of the following partners cover part or all of Belhaven's footprint. Primary responding agencies are the Jackson Police Department and the Capitol Police Department, which operates under the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Capitol Police Department
Jackson Police Department
University of Mississippi Medical Police & Public Safety
Belhaven University Security Department
Millsaps College Campus Safety
Saums Security Consulting

Residents also have opportunities to engage directly with law enforcement through GBF town halls, listening sessions, and community meetings throughout the year.

Digital Patrol Information

Like other parts of Jackson and cities across the metro, the Greater Belhaven Foundation has used funds to implement Flock cameras. These small, solar-powered devices capture license plates of passing vehicles to assist in locating stolen cars or identifying vehicles involved in crime, without compromising residents' privacy.

If you have been the victim of a crime, Flock cameras can assist law enforcement in identifying license plates of suspicious vehicles. Often, witnesses or security cameras capture images of a vehicle used in the commission of a crime, but without clear footage of a license plate, there is little that can be done. The addition of Flock cameras allows law enforcement to cross-reference identifying characteristics of suspicious vehicles seen in the neighborhood with captured license plates.

How to Use This Resource After a Crime

If you have a vehicle description and an approximate time the crime took place, our plate reader cameras can be an incredible investigative tool for law enforcement. All crimes should be reported to law enforcement immediately. Once a police report has been filed, residents can submit details to the victim interface portal — GBF's security team will coordinate with law enforcement to ensure they have access to the footage needed for a thorough investigation.

We prioritize transparency in showing how funds are used for public safety efforts.

Updates on Technology & Safety
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

CPTED, or Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, is a priority of the Greater Belhaven Foundation. In addition to assisting residents with reporting and resolving concerns related to abandoned or oversized vehicles, vacant or poorly maintained properties, and improperly managed rental properties, GBF works closely with the city and neighborhood stakeholders on traffic-calming and street safety initiatives.

These initiatives are aimed at reducing speeding and cut-through traffic while enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Recent Project: Gillespie Street

A recent project transitioned the Gillespie Street entrance at North State Street into a pedestrian-only access point, featuring the installation of a brick column and a redesigned streetscape intended to slow vehicles and improve safety for children and neighbors. The effort is part of a broader plan to convert one street per year over the next several years.

Homeless Response

The Greater Belhaven Foundation has participated in meetings with city officials, state agencies, and community partners to advocate for policies and initiatives that address concerns around unsheltered individuals in public and private spaces. This includes supporting legislative efforts aimed at maintaining safe areas while promoting responsible and compassionate approaches to homelessness.
